New book review!
Set in the titular year, 1979 is the story of Allie Burns, a young investigative journalist whose nose for a good story leads her down dark paths in twentieth century Glasgow. When one of her fellow journalists -- and a close friend -- is murdered, the investigation gets personal.
I'm pretty sure this is the first in a new series by Val McDermid, and I really hope so, as it was a cracking story. Allie's struggles to find the truth just go to show that everything old is new again, and I can't wait to read more. The audiobook, narrated by Katie Leung, crackles with the voices of bleak 1970's Glasgow. Leung [whom you might remember as Cho Chang in the Harry Potter movies] completely brings this story to life.
Just a fantastic read -- I loved it.
More soon...
