What were YOUR favourite books of 2015? I read a bunch of books from a gaggle of genres, many of which I picked up when touring my own book over the summer. The BEST way I find new books is on recommendation, so… share, will you?
Which of your fave books from 2015 would you recommend I read?
Here are a few of mine, to start. [You might notice that only one of these books was actually published IN 2015. The huge size of my TBR pile means I am sometimes slow getting to new titles. Nevertheless, that’s the best thing about books — long shelf lives!]
In general fiction, all my friends know I loved MR PENUMBRA’S 24 HOUR BOOKSTORE by Robin Sloan, because I have ranted on so endlessly about it. I’m pretty sure I pushed it to all the readers I met this summer, too. This story is such a cool mix of a love of old bookstores and cryptography and ancient cabals and font design, all set in a decidedly 21st century setting. I did not want this book to end.
In the suspense department, NIGHT NIGHT SLEEP TIGHT by Hallie Ephron was just fantastic. With fictionalized echoes of a famous 1950’s murder, Hallie brings her own experience growing up in Hollywood which lends an undeniable verisimilitude to this marvellous mystery.
In what I might categorize as historical humanism, my favourite this year was AN INCONVENIENT INDIAN by Thomas King; a look at first nations-white relations across centuries and the entire continent of North America. This book is so sad and so funny; it is poignant and insightful and literally a page-turner in the best possible way.
I’ve read so many other faves, not to mention a bunch of books by friends that came out this year, but I think I’ll save those for another day. For now… will you join me? I’d love to hear about your favourite reads from 2015, and why I should read ’em, too.

PS. Forgot to include fave audio books. [Thanks, Dany!] In spec-fic, I loved READY PLAYER ONE by Ernest Cline, read by Wil Wheaton. And for a knock-out YA, I really enjoyed HIT by Delilah S. Dawson, read by Rebekkah Ross. Also? Can I just say that Romy Nordlinger did a bang-up job reading FINDING FRASER!
